Glass Designs

Cookstool Lane

Initially we were asked to carry out various repairs to this large feature window in the stairwell of a grand property on Cookstool Lane in Fence, Burnley.

However, when we assessed the window in more depth it was evident that the lead had deteriorated quite badly so it was decided that the window would be re leaded.

The window was made up of five leaded panels with a sixth panel having an opener situated above it. We removed all the panels from the timber frame and the opening was boarded. All panels were stripped, glass cleaned, new glass cut for broken pieces and re leaded and cemented.

The sixth panel with the opener was made into one panel on the customers instruction which required us to re cut the perimeter glass from new matching glass as the size of opener was smaller than the panel below it.

All panels were fitted into the timber frame bedded in putty and the wooden beading pinned back in place. where the beading was damaged or broken we replaced with new.

The images below show the windows at various stages in the manufacturing process through to fitting the windows with Poly Carbonate protection. Click the image to enlarge.
