No previous experience needed
Anyone is welcome to try this course,
although it’s is not suitable for children as
the use of glass and soldering irons will be
necessary.
Step by Step Tuition
This is a relaxed, enjoyable, practical
course that will demonstrate each step in
the process of making a small leaded
panel.
Take Your Masterpiece Home
Once you have chosen your design, cut
your own glass, leaded, soldered and
cemented your panel, you can take the
panel home with you.
We have carried out a number of encapsultions. This process involves taking the traditional stained glass or leaded panel and integrating it
inside a double glazed unit, in effect it becomes a triple layer of glazing
The process requires us to re size the original glass and restore the panel ready for encapsulation. We work closely with a very reputable double glazing company to carry out the encapsulation. This process allows the client to keep their beloved leaded glass but enables them to modernise their property with energy efficient double glazing.
Glass Designs have been designing and producing bespoke stained glass windows,
doors, mirrors and restoring and repairing broken panels for over ten years now.
Based in Brierfield, Lancashire we predominantly specialise in designing new
contemporary panels, however, we have spent many years in the restoration of
church, listed buildings and school windows.
We have also been involved with the protection of stained glass windows in the form
of metal Grille’s and Polycarbonate. We can also encapsulate your existing stained
glass windows into double glazed units. We work with a very reputable double
glazing company to achieve this.
Our working policy is simple, no job is too big or small and we pride ourselves in the
quality of our workmanship.

Stained Glass Course
Fancy trying your hand at something completely different. On our stained glass taster course you will
learn the basics in the ancient art of making stained glass windows. You will be making a small hanging
leaded panel from scratch which you will be able to take home with you.
Fun, relaxed and enjoyable taster course
Self Adhesive Lead and Film
This is an alternative option to the traditional method of making a stained glass or leaded window. We can produce leaded designs with self
adhesive lead and coloured film on 4mm glass which can be used in double glazed units without the need for encapsulating.
This is a much more cost effective way of creating a design or incorporating colour into your double glazed windows, however, will not be
visually appealing as the traditional method. These designs can be bright and vibrant and are can be produced in much less time as the
cutting of the glass, framing the glass in lead and soldering is not needed in this method.
We are happy to discuss any ideas you may have and will work closely with your double glazing fitters with sizing etc.
About Us
Encapsulation
Glass Designs has over 9 years experience in the repair,
restoration and protection of church windows. We have
carried out simple clear repairs and complex painted
glass repairs to church windows. We have also dealt with
the complete restoration of stained glass windows,
which included removing the windows from the church,
removing the glass from the old lead and completely re
leading the entire window ready for re installation.
We have protected stained glass windows and leaded
light windows in the form of traditional metal Grille’s
fixed to the outside and more modern and more secure
polycarbonate protection which uses 8mm
polycarbonate sheeting cut to the profile of the window
to be protected. The polycabonate is uv resistant so will
not yellow over time and has excellent high impact
strength. The polycarbonate is fixed with rivets which
are more secure that traditional screws.
